From The Boston Globe
An Iowa man who allegedly threatened to shoot and kill Muslims in comments he posted on the Facebook page of the Islamic Society of Boston Cultural Center has agreed to plead guilty to making threats over the Internet, before he could be brought to Boston to answer to the charges.
Gerald Wayne Ledford had been held in Iowa following his arrest in early June, and was supposed to be brought to the US District Court in Boston to formally be arraigned.
He had that appearance postponed, however, and on Tuesday he filed a notice to have the case transferred to Iowa so that he could plead guilty. The terms of his decision to plead guilty were not disclosed.
The charges were based on two postings Ledford made to the Center’s Facebook page in October 2014. The postings were noticed by a staffer, who took a screenshot of them before deleting them from the account.
One of the postings was a photograph of a man with a long gun, with the caption saying, “This is for you. Followers of (…) Mohamed.” The posting included an expletive to describe the prophet of the Islamic faith.
In a second posting, federal authorities alleged, Ledford wrote in sentences riddled with misspellings and expletives that “you all will go to hell” and promised “we will destroy you.”
