From Newseum
On September 22, 2016, the Religious Freedom Center of the Newseum Institute hosted a panel discussion about recent findings that show that 9 out of 10 news reports about Muslims, Islam, and Islamic organizations are related to violence — war or terrorism. Alarmingly, media representations of Islam were worse in 2015 than any other time since 9/11.
The discussion was moderated by Engy Abdelkader, assistant director of the Bridge Initiative at the Berkley Center for Religion, Peace & World Affairs.
The event was co-sponsored by The Bridge Initiative, which is based at Georgetown University’s Prince Alwaleed bin Talal Center for Muslim-Christian Understanding; the Religion News Association; and the Religious Freedom Center of the Newseum Institute.
The panelists include:
- Professor John Esposito (Georgetown University)
- Dalia Mogahed (Institute for Social Policy & Understanding)
- Roland Schatz (Media Tenor)
- Aymen Mohyeldin (NBC News)
- Arsalan Iftikhar (The Islamic Monthly)
