TROY — The Unity House in Troy served up meals on Christmas, but this year, there was a change in the faces behind the counter.
Members of the Muslim Soup Kitchen Project staffed the dinner service, which planned to serve nearly 150 meals. The move allowed volunteers who celebrate Christmas to spend the holiday with their families. ”
We wanted to provide something they don’t normally get, some nutritious meals that they may not have every day,” says Uzma Popal. “We usually do it on the last Saturday of every month, but since it’s a holiday, we want to come and do something special for those who help everybody out. We wanted to give them a break.”
The meals included the usual Christmas fixings, and also some non-traditional items like curried chicken.
